Educational Magazines with an international Flavour?

Hello All

I really need some advice on this one.
I'm new to International schools and Asia.
Our magazine collection is too mature (lots of trade mags such as Smithsonian, New Scientist).
And it is too Americentric (too many US publications, not enough Internationalness).

I really need recommendations for educational mags for sciences, humanities, languages, etc (US or not). And some non-US options.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Alan,

Which grades are you looking at? Also important is the reading level (lexile level).
We have developed a list of magazines that are content and age appropriate for elementary, middle and high school.
I will post a short list based on your input.
Talk to you soon.

Hi Jackie
Thanks for your help.
I have grades 7-13.
I don't know lexiles, but our students must pass an english exam to enter the school. I'd say fair English for some of the year 7s, and near fluent for all of the older students. We have few actual ESL classes, most students do the normal British curriculum.
Could you add, subject, yr level, and country to your list if you have time?

Thanks again

Alan

Alan,

I am unable to help specifically with title recommendations.
At the school I am in we subscribe to ebsco databases.Although it is based in America it has international content. This is costly and you only have access while subscription is current.
So, you may wish to check out Ebsco's database of journals at http://ejournals.ebsco.com/info/ejsTitles.asp and perform subject searches. This will at least give you titles and publisher names. From there you could check out individual websites to see if they are at a suitable level. Better still request a free trial at http://www.ebscohost.com/ . If your budget allows you may wish to subscribe to ebsco online (in which case you need to get their help on what level you need as their are multiple databases within the database). Ebsco also provide a service where you can subscribe to the physical journal.
