Hi Kate - StoryLines has only just been launched to our boys. Spent most of first term developing the page and associated things like LibraryThing, a wikispace (fairly empty as yet), delicious, Google Analytics for stats, etc. Now our task is to get kids and hopefully teachers involved with adding content. We are introducing it to years 7 & 8 via our fortnightly literature program, but I know from past experience that this hurdle is a difficult one to jump. My old school blog at http://www.bookbite.blogspot.com/ has done this quite well by giving one or two students time to sit and write a review during regular library classes. This was introduced by my successor and has proved a good way to get kids regularly adding content. Before that we relied on sweet talking our avid readers, with varied success. That school has a high turnover of fiction reading by the boys - proving (in the Shakespearen sense) - the rule about boys and reading.

Sorry but my actual library pages are only available through the Intranet.... I could give you access privately if you like - we might have to get together on Skype :)

Friday and things are hotting up!

Once Doctor Who is over, there is little to tempt me away from the computer on a Friday night, so I have been spending some quality time at the conference.

While it has taken a few days for people to get stuck in, (perhaps because no-one wants to be the over-eager student at the front of the class whose hand is constantly oscillating to the refrain of "I know the answer!/ I have a question!/ Pick me!!") over the last 24 hours the number of forum messages have obviously reached the tipping point… Continue

It's Monday, and I don't know where to start!

Well, I read the papers over the weekend, snatching a few minutes here and there to note my thoughts while trying to deter various offspring from interrupting my flow... with varying levels of success (deja vu - it's post-grad all over again!!)

So much food for thought - some great ideas, cautionary tales, even contradictory approaches - but that gels with my experiences in the real world. At the moment the paper that is particularly well-timed is Pru Mitchell's discussion of professional leContinue

It's Friday, I feel fine!

I have a printed and bound set of conference papers in my bag, I've skimmed the abstracts for the first strand and have read Raylee's introductory paper. I have no idea how I shall find time to read all the forum discussions over the next few weeks, but I guess there were no interesting programs scheduled on idiot box anyway :>
I'm looking forward to learning with all the conference participants and bouncing ideas around to formulate and refine my own understandings of approaches to digital l… Continue
