Day one of the ASLA XXI Biennial Conference in Perth has started. You can follow the conference on Twitter by using the hashtag #asla2009.

Opening keynote by Libby Gleeson set out a challenge for educators - Literature in schools (whole literature programs and not just the decoding of text - "best books leave you wanting to talk about it." - Diminishing respect for teacher-librarians - (advocacy opportunities) - formation of Australian Children's Literature Alliance.
